Portway School 2
2011–2012

Date
2011–2012

Project Name
Portway School 2

Client
London Borough of Newham

Category

Fluid was appointed by the LB of Newham in 2011 to provide full architectural and participatory design services for the expansion of Portway Primary School.

The project scope was to expand the size of the school with new additions and to replace temporary buildings with high quality permanent buildings. This will provide sufficient and suitable provision for the enlargement of the existing school from a 3 Forms of Entry (3FE) comprising 630 pupils, to a 4FE school comprising 840 pupils.

This is achieved by a combination of new build and refurbishment of the existing accommodation, including the demolition of the existing Reception classrooms (a temporary mobile comprising 4 no. classrooms which has reached the end of its effective life), with new permanent buildings to accommodate Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 classrooms, and extensions to the existing dining area and staff area.

The options were developed and tested in full collaboration with the school. The final proposals presented to LB Newham’s Design Review Panel were well recieved.

The project was tendered to Newham’s prefered contractors and is due for completion in 2014.
