In April 2013 Fluid was appointed by the GLA to carry out an evaluation of the High Street 2012 project. The ‘High Street 2012’ Vision for the 6km stretch of high streets along the A11 between Aldgate and Stratford was produced by Fluid in 2009-10.
Particular landscape elements have now been further developed and delivered by a range of partners and designers, including Alan Baxter Associates, East, Julian Harrap, JMP and Muf.
The study records the outcomes and evaluates the success of the High Street 2012 project in bringing lasting improvements to the public realm. It also assesses the extent to which these improvements have brought with them other related social, cultural and economic benefits.
The evaluation explores joint working arrangements, strategic fit across statutory and legislative boundaries and means of drawing transport planning and urban design closer together. The study, which was supported by academic Suzie Hall, also looked to see what lessons could be learnt from the project in terms of best practice that others could learn from.
The evaluation was completed in March 2014.
