Park Prewett Update
11 April 2014
Since Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council approved the outline application in December 2013, Fluid have been developing the reserved matters for the first phase of approximately 300 homes. The project is currently at the pre application stage, with the full submission due this summer.
In March 2014 a public exhibition was held in Basingstoke to present the latest masterplan. Also presented was a series of visualisations of the proposed apartment blocks in Rooksgate as well as a number of streetscenes taken throughout the site.
Situated on the edge of the countryside, on a sloping treed site, the masterplan follows a number of key design principles:
- Working with the landscape
- Marking a transition from the urban to the rural
- Maximising views
- Encouraging sociability
The architecture follows the overarching concept of ‘Contemporary Rural’ and references the local vernacular in terms of materiality, decoration and form. Working together as clusters they create a strong entrance to the development whilst grouped to enclose and shape the open spaces, maximise sunlight and views and provide a backdrop for social life.
