Eirini Villas nears completion

Eirini Villas is finally complete after five years of extensions, refurbishments and the most torturous planning system imaginable. When first built, the ‘Old House’ walls, roof and brise soleil – the latter inspired by a trip to Chandigargh – were built with a single layer of brick or concrete, relying on the thick lime render to keep us warm and dry – needless to say, this did not work. So the entire building now has a new overcoat (and accessories) in the form of 70mm vermiculite insulated, geotextile lined and finely rendered skin. The old aluminium doors and windows have been replaced with sustainably forested Iroko doors, windows, shutters and pergola. The peach tree in the foreground grown from a stone thrown by our son 20 years ago – now bears wonderful fruit.

Final external works are on site, and the whole package is due to tie up come September, in time for a special wedding.
